Nieuport Aviation owns the passenger terminal at Billy Bishop Airport and would directly profit from increased passenger traffic and terminal value resulting from the Ford government's takeover and expansion plan; critics including Green Party leader Mike Schreiner say the plan lets a J.P. Morgan-controlled company 'cash in' while the public bears the cost.
According to Ontario's Lobbyist Registry, Nieuport Aviation retained consultant lobbyists — including Mark Lawson of Anthem Advisory, a former senior aide to Premier Doug Ford (2019-2021) — to lobby the provincial government on expansion of the island airport.
