Julie Dabrusin
Government of Canada
Julie Dabrusin is Canada's federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change. She is a named defendant in the April 2026 Ecojustice Federal Court application, which seeks to compel her to issue an emergency order under the Species at Risk Act protecting Piping Plover critical habitat at Wasaga Beach. Dabrusin had already missed a March 1, 2026 deadline set in a formal petition filed January 27, 2026.
Connected Scandals
Doug Ford's government sold off 60% of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park — overriding 98% public opposition via an omnibus budget bill — while Bill 5 stripped the last provincial protections from Ontario's most important Piping Plover breeding site. When the Town began mechanically raking critical nesting habitat in April 2026 just days before the endangered birds return, Ecojustice filed a Federal Court lawsuit warning that failure to act will result in the species' extirpation from Ontario.
As federal Environment Minister, Dabrusin is named as a defendant in the Ecojustice Federal Court lawsuit. Despite receiving a formal SARA petition on January 27, 2026 requesting emergency protection for Piping Plover habitat at Wasaga Beach by March 1, she failed to act — making the Federal Court lawsuit the last available protection mechanism before the species' potential extirpation from Ontario.
