“No one working in Ontario should ever make less than minimum wage for an hour's work.”

What happened · Jul 1, 2025

The Digital Platform Workers' Rights Act, 2022 came into force on July 1, 2025, entitling ride-share, delivery and courier platform workers to the general minimum wage for each work assignment, excluding tips.

The minimum wage guarantee was part of the Working for Workers Act, 2022 (Bill 88), which received royal assent in April 2022. The government did not bring it into force then. It proclaimed the act on September 5, 2024, and the act took effect on July 1, 2025, more than three years after it passed. The minimum wage covers only engaged time, from accepting an assignment to completing it, not time spent waiting between assignments. CityNews reported that limit on the day the bill was announced.
