Beneficiary
$5B in promised subsidies ($2.5B from Ontario); $15B project suspended
Honda was the intended beneficiary of a $15-billion EV manufacturing deal in Alliston, Ontario, backed by up to $5 billion in combined federal and provincial subsidies and tax credits (Ontario's share up to $2.5 billion for construction and site servicing). In May 2026, Honda indefinitely suspended the project, citing weak EV demand and a $3.68-billion first-ever annual loss; Honda stated none of the promised government funding had actually been paid out to the company.
