According to an internal ministry database obtained by the Toronto Star (November 14, 2025), Postmedia's application scored 41.68 and received $1.04 million for artificial-intelligence staff training (to train 130 journalists and other staff). Evaluators cited an "unclear" budget allocation, no in-house contributions and "negative media attention." Postmedia said it applied "through the open, government-overseen process" and was not aware of any scores.
