Scandals

Beneficiary

$50M land purchase

Companies tied to Silvio De Gasperis (TACC) own 24 properties totalling over 1,300 acres in the Duffins Rouge Agricultural Preserve, and TACC paid $50 million in May 2021 for 100 acres of farmland north of Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan that was later removed from Greenbelt protection — land experts say would only fetch such a price if development were expected. De Gasperis was also summonsed by Ontario's Auditor General over Greenbelt land dealings.

Donor

$294,000 in PC donations since 2014

De Gasperis and associated TACC entities donated at least $163,362–$294,000 to the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario since 2014, according to Elections Ontario data compiled by The Narwhal.

Beneficiary

A National Observer/Torstar investigation found companies connected to the De Gasperis/TACC family own three properties totalling 168 acres near the proposed Highway 413 route, plus five more properties jointly owned with other developers — land whose value would rise if the highway is built.

Lobbyist

TACC Developments registered former federal Conservative MP and ex-Ontario PC Party president Peter Van Loan as a lobbyist, disclosed in the Ontario Lobbyist Registry, targeting (among other ministries) the Minister of Transportation on the 'impact of proposed highway on Client's lands.'
